GILLINGHAM’S youth team are preparing to take on West Ham United in the third round of the FA Youth Cup tonight.

The game has been overshadowed by the announcement of Stan Ternent as the new manager at the club, but the youngsters will be looking forward to the challenge of playing the Hammers.

The east London club’s youth system has produced the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Jermain Defoe in recent years.

The competition gives some of the potential stars of the future the chance to impress new boss Ternent and his staff playing at the Priestfield.

Coach Darren Hare told KM-fm he is hoping his team can emulate the run the side had in last year’s tournament…
