Colchester United 1 – 0 Gillingham

COLCHESTER are leading Gillingham 1-0 at half-time in this afternoon’s League 1 clash.

Greg Halford gave the home side the lead after 32 minutes when he finished coolly after Kevin Watson had played him in.

Earlier, the Gills had a penalty appeal turned down after Andrew Crofts appeared to be shoved in the back after a low cross into the box.

Moments later Halford found himself clean through against Tony Bullock but he skied his shot over the crossbar.

The home side had a decent penalty shout of their own after Sam Stockley went down under a challenge from Paul Smith, but again the referee saw nothing untoward.

The visitors have offered little in attack and the returning Darren Byfield has found himself isolated up front.

Gillingham: Bullock, Clohessy, Cox, Johnson, Williams, Spiller, Smith, Crofts, Jarvis, Flynn, Byfield.
Subs: Brown, Rose, Jackman, Saunders, Harris.
