Gills struggling in transfer market

JEPSON: "We've had a few knock backs"

GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson has spoken of his frustration at the lack of transfer activity at the club during the January window.

Injuries and suspensions ahead of Saturday's trip to Oldham has brought the problem of not being able to strengthen the squad more sharply into focus.

Jepson said: "We've had a few knock backs in the transfer market this week from clubs in the league above because they are fighting for promotion and are reluctant to let people go.

"But this club is good at begging and borrowing so as soon as managers make their players available, then we will act.

"I don't see the point, though, in rushing into things and handing out 18 month contracts. I like to assess players to see their worth. It may be that we have to wait until the end of the season."
