Gills still want another striker

Mark Stimson wants to get a forward in on loan
Mark Stimson wants to get a forward in on loan

“I’M not finished yet,” insisted Mark Stimson this week as he prepares to make a move in the loan transfer market.

The Gills manager splashed out £150,000 on Rushden striker Simeon Jackson on deadline day but he still wants to add at least one more forward.

Gillingham have scored just once in their last five games and another striker will be a priority when the loan market opens for business at the end of this week.

Saturday’s goalless draw with Cheltenham highlighted the problem, and Stimson is working hard to solve it.

“Everyone can see what we’re lacking and it doesn’t take rocket science,” he said.

“We’ll be going out to attack again. We’ve brought one striker in and we might need another one who can help us through these next few months.

“My list will come out again and we’ll go through it. There may be one or two who might get left out (of their sides) and could come down here to play football, and help this club get up this league.

“It was a problem before I came here about how many goals the team had scored.

“It wasn’t enough and it’s frustrating that it hasn’t really changed since I’ve been here, because it’s a massive part of the game I enjoy.”
