Gills stand-in skipper confident of victory

GILLINGHAM defender Chris Hope says his side can get the points in the crucial encounter against Wigan at Priestfield tonight.

Hope praised Gills for their second-half performance at Cardiff on Saturday and said if they played like that they could pick up a vital victory.

But Saturday's stand-in skipper and goalscorer warned of Wigan's twin goal-threat in Nathan Ellington and Jason Roberts.

Paul Smith faces a late fitness test on his bruised foot, otherwise it will be the same side that played against Cardiff.

The Gills are still just one place above the drop zone - two points clear of Derby who occupy the last of the relegation places.
