Gills player of the month: Vote now

Gillingham head into April with a great chance of making an immediate return to League 1 and now is the time to vote for the player you thought had the biggest impact in March.

The Gills ended the month on a high as Simeon Jackson’s penalty kick earned them a deserved point at League 2 leaders Brentford.

Only one defeat came during the month as last weekend they slipped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Grimsby.

Prior to that the Gills enjoyed wins over Notts County, Darlington and Accrington and gained points from matches against Luton and Shrewsbury.

We’ve selected six of the best to choose from and you have the final say as to who deserves the coveted player of the month title.

SIMEON JACKSON

Jackson took his goal tally to 18 on Saturday with another ice-cool penalty conversion at Brentford. An injury time penalty also guaranteed maximum points against Darlington, he netted the winner against Notts County and also scored against Accrington.

SIMON KING

The regular runner-up in the player of the month competition had another solid month for the Gills. He helped the side to four clean sheets in March, despite playing with an ankle injury, and continues to be a key player in the side.

MARK McCAMMON

Injury troubles have plagued the big striker’s first season for the Gills but he’s beginning to show his real worth. He’s been winning the aerial battles, has started to link up well with Jackson and isn’t afraid to help out and defend when required.

JOHN NUTTER

Nutter has responded to the challenge from loan arrival Rene Steer in the perfect way. The left-back has had to fight to keep the shirt and his performances have improved as a result. He’s produced some solid performances at the back and great deliveries from the wing.

SIMON ROYCE

Royce was a regular winner of the award last season but he has had far less to do this season. But he’s shown in recent matches that he’s still the best shot stopper in the lower divisions and has been vital to the good run of form recently.

NICKY SOUTHALL

The veteran midfielder shows no sign of slowing down and he’s been keeping a feisty Dennis Oli out of the side. He scored in the 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury and created others, including one for Oli in the 2-0 win at Accrington.
