GILLINGHAM recorded their third straight victory as they saw off Port Vale at Priestfield on Saturday.

The Gills took the lead nine minutes before half-time when Ian Cox rose to meet Nicky Southall's corner and head high into the Port Vale goal.

The lead was doubled four minutes after the break when captain Michael Flynn got in front of his man to head in Clint Easton's cross.

And Flynn made it three less than five minute later when his free-kick when straight through the wall and into the net.

Port Vale pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when debutant keeper Simon Royce got a hand to but couldn't keep out Danny Whittaker's long-range volley.

Then Leon Constantine got a second for the visitors deep into stoppage time from the spot after Ben Chorley had fouled Luke Rodgers.

Gillingham: Royce, Southall, Chorley, Cox, Jackman, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn, Easton, Spiller, Mulligan (McDonald 42).
Subs Not Used: Johnson, Tonge, Pugh, Collin.
Attendance: 5,928.
