Gills look to escape drop zone

TERNENT: "We are capable of stringing four or five wins together"

Rotherham v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM travel to Rotherham on Saturday looking to secure their first back-to-back wins in nearly seven months and drag themselves out of the bottom three.

If they win at Millmoor and Coventry lose at Watford, the Gills will climb out of the relegation zone for the first time since October.

After last Saturday’s shock 2-1 win over Championship leaders Wigan, Gills know another victory at the league’s bottom club will keep the momentum going.

But not since they claimed 2-1 home wins over Leeds and Preston in the second and third games of the season have they managed to pick up maximum points in consecutive games.

Manager Stan Ternent said: "I’ve always said that we are capable of stringing four of five wins together as the division is pretty level and anyone can beat anyone on their day.

"Rotherham have only had one home win this season and I hope it stays that way after Saturday."

Victory would put another nail in Rotherham’s relegation coffin, leaving the Yorkshire club even further adrift at the bottom.

Ternent said: "We’re staying in there and giving ourselves a fighting chance. We just need to win a couple of games away from home."

Gills have two new injury concerns. Darren Byfield is a doubt as he’s carrying a stomach strain, while Ian Cox has hamstring trouble.

Danny Spiller missed the reserve team’s 2-0 defeat at Milton Keynes Dons with flu but has recovered and could be in contention.

But both Nyron Nosworthy and John Hills will miss the match after picking up their fifth bookings of the season in the 2-1 win over Wigan.

Fit-again striker Mamady Sidibe could make a return to the line-up after impressing as a second-half substitute last Saturday, while Darius Henderson will be looking forward to the game after his double strike against the league leaders and getting named in the Championship team of the week.
