Gills keen to end Facey's transfer nightmare

Transfer plans?: Delroy Facey
Transfer plans?: Delroy Facey

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has urged Delroy Facey to give him a call – so he can end the striker’s Priestfield nightmare.

Last week the Gills confirmed they have received enquiries from two teams keen on signing the transfer-listed striker.

But Facey is not answering calls from anyone at the club, much to the frustration of Gills boss Stimson.

"Everyone has rung him and left messages," he said. "We don’t know where he is.

"It’s a shame because as well as looking after ourselves, we could be doing him a favour by getting him a job somewhere else.

"If we didn’t pay him next month, he’d be ringing me up straight away."

The former Rotherham frontman has scored just three goals in 32 games since joining Gillingham last summer and he ended last season on loan at Wycombe.

Stimson added: "My message to him would be ‘Ring us back’.

"There’s no punishment, just get in touch. The chairman, myself, my assistant and the physio have all left him messages.

"He can help us and we can help him. Delroy has got a year’s contract left with us and someone out there is willing to give him a two-year deal."

Despite not being able to track Facey down, Stimson refused to rule out the possibility of him ever pulling on a Gillingham shirt again.

He said: "If he came in during pre-season, worked hard and got himself fit, then he could play."
