Gills in front at the break at Priestfield

GOAL: Paul Shields
GOAL: Paul Shields

Gillingham 1 – 0 Hartlepool United

GILLINGHAM are leading Hartlepool at half-time in Ronnie Jepson’s first match in charge at Priestfield this afternoon.

The Gills got off to a dream start when Paul Shields drilled them in front after just nine minutes after Neil Harris had picked him out in the box. It was Shields’ first goal for the club.

In a bright opening from the home side, Andrew Crofts also headed wide after a cross by Matt Jarvis.

In a first half of little goalmouth action, the closest Hartlepool came to an equaliser was a looping Neil Collins header that landed on top of the goal five minutes before the break.

Neil Harris had a goal ruled out for offside on the stroke of half-time.

Gillingham: Bullock, Johnson, Hope, Cox, Williams, Spiller, Smith, Crofts, Jarvis, Harris, Shields.
Subs: Crichton, Jackman, Saunders, Byfield, Collin.
