Arsenal's young left-back Rene Steer has agreed to extend his loan deal at Gillingham for another month.

Steer has only been used on several occasions since joining the Gills but boss Mark Stimson was keen to keep his services for a little longer.

Stimson said: “He hasn’t featured recently but he’s still part of what we want to do. I’ve only got one left-back in John Nutter.”

Steer travelled with the team to Grimsby on Saturday but wasn’t selected in the 16-man squad. He’s played five games for the Gills so far, his first games at senior level.

He will be available for Gillingham’s next six games, with the deal expiring after the club’s home match against Bury on April 25.
