Gillingham held on for a point at Luton during a testing encounter at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.

Basement side Luton had a number of chances to take the points but couldnt find their way past the Gills defence.

Gillingham were thankful to still be on level terms at the break as Luton had a number of chances to take the lead.

A lively home attack were running rings around Gillinghams defence at times and Luton striker Tom Craddock came closest to scoring for the hosts when he turned Mark Bentley and sent a curling shot against the post.

As early as the second minute fellow striker Sam Parkin struck a shot across the face of the goal and keeper Simon Royce was called upon to save from Chris Martin, Craddock and a minute before the break denied Ian Hernderson with a finger tip save.

Striker Simeon Jackson was back in the starting line-up for Gills alongside Mark McCammon and they made a bright start. After just 18 seconds Jacksons cross was only narrowly missed by McCammon. It was a great start to the first half but it didnt last.

Luton were kept at bay at the start of the second half but Gillingham were also struggling to test the keeper. Dennis Olis 50th minute shot went well wide while Craddock lifted a shot over the bar at the other end.

Luton applied the pressure in the final minutes, earning a series of corner-kicks, and Craddock struck a great chance over the bar.

Manager Mark Stimson said: Conditions werent the best and it was a game of two halves because of the wind which played into one half of the pitch.

We had to defend that end first half and we did well to go in 0-0 and we just said to the players, in the second half lets put them under a bit of pressure.

We had opportunities but didnt take them and overall, with the conditions, and the way the boys dug in well take the point.

If we can keep knocking up these points away from home and win our home games then hopefully well be around it at the end.
