Bournemouth v Gillingham

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson was in positive mood as he prepared for the club's League 2 opening day trip to Bournemouth.

After a campaign of struggle last season, there is no looking back for the Gills now as they target a quick return to League 1 – starting at Dean Court on Saturday.

Stimson knows there will be "twists and turns" along the way, and admitted: "It’s about how we get over little problems like injuries, suspensions and loss of form and have we got back-up?

"We want promotion, if I said we didn’t, I would be lying."

The Priestfield boss admits relegation still hurts but is aware he and his players will face different challenges this season.

"League 1 has players with more individual quality but in this league teams fight and battle for each other – we have got to be ready.

"If we can match that, I am sure we have got the players to do well. But we must have the team spirit and make sure we are ready for everything that is thrown at us."

Stimson picks from a squad of 18 for the trip to Dean Court.
