Gillingham reserves suffer home defeat

Gillingham Reserves lost 3-1 to Millwall on Wednesday afternoon at Priestfield Stadium in the Combination League.

The Gills claimed their consolation goal late in the game when Albert Jarrett’s cross was diverted into the net by Millwall’s Kamil Tevfik.

Making their second appearance for Gillingham reserves was Crystal Palace youngster Ryan Carolan and former Doncaster defender Valentino Shielis.

Also appearing was Blackpool youth striker Jake Hobbs who played alongside Gary Mulligan. Mulligan has been left out of Gillingham’s first team squad over Easter and he was keen to show what he can do.

Ashley Grimes scored the opening goal for Millwall just before the break and John Marquis doubled the lead early in the second half.

Millwall netted their third goal five minutes from time after a mix-up in defence allowed Ikenna Ofoche to pounce.

Gills: Quinn, Payne, Steer, Essam, Shielis, Carolan, Geering, Howard (Bartrum 46mins), Mulligan (Stimson 61mins), Hobbs (Murphy 61mins), Jarrett. Subs not used: Daniel, Sargeant.
