Aldershot 2 Gillingham 1

Gillingham suffered their second successive defeat on their travels as Scott Davies? late strike sealed the points for the home side.

Two minutes before Davies had scored his deflected long range strike it looked as though Gillingham had claimed an unlikely point thanks to Simeon Jackson?s opportune effort.

The Gills were up against it from as early as the 13th minute, when striker Mark McCammon was given a straight red card, after a late challenge on home keeper Nikki Bull.

Despite the man disadvantage, Gillingham remained in the game and on 27 minutes Bull had to do well to save from Charlie Daniels. Two minutes later Mark Bentley hit the post with a header.

Aldershot finished the half strongly and came close to the opening goal when John Grant?s effort took a deflection and struck the base of the post.

On the stroke of half time Aldershot came even closer to scoring but were denied as Simon King made a goal line clearance from Dean Howell?s injury time shot.

After plenty of second half pressure Aldershot took a deserved lead on 75th minute when Kirk Hudson pounced from close range and beat keeper Simon Royce.

But nine minutes later it was all-square thanks to Jackson?s effort but Davies ensured Gillingham were going home empty handed again.

Manager Mark Stimson saw positives from the defeat and was delighted with his players? attitude in the game.

He said: ?The boys will be gutted because they put so much in and we deserved something from the game without playing particularly well.

?I said to them, ?chins up get on with it, these things happen and it?s how you deal with it.? The ones who work the hardest will get their luck and we?ll keep moving in the right direction.

?Mark Bentley was outstanding for us and the two centre halves were a lot better than last week. Both full backs did reasonably well against good players at this level.

?There is a lot to look forward to we just need to keep our nerve and make sure we keep on the right track and keep believing that what we?re doing is right.

?I?m a football supporter too and what I always want is for the players to give 100 per cent and that?s what those players did.?
