Gate's good run comes to an end

MARGATE suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Hornchurch in the Nationwide Conference South on Saturday.

A Matt Glynn penalty midway through the second half, after Gate goalkeeper Peter Trego had been sent off, was enough to give the home side all three points in a match they dominated.

In the 69th minute John Keister’s woefully short back pass was capitalised upon by Chris Stowe who was then brought down by the advancing Trego.

Trego received his marching orders and the home side’s number nine Glynn fired home the penalty past substitute keeper Nebjar Hussain.

Margate had started the game brightly and Moses Jjunju missed a great opportunity after 12 minutes when he hit his shot high over the bar from Rocky Baptiste’s flick on.

Then Che Stadhart failed to find the back of the net when well placed after good work from Adrian Clark and Baptiste.

But Hornchurch were firmly in control in the second half, especially after taking the lead, and Gate had Hussain to thank for the score remaining 1-0.
