Margate boss Barry Ashby and assistant Paul Smith make their managerial baptism when the club’s Ryman League Premier Division campaign opens at Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.

The club have confirmed a squad of 15 contracted players and have offered a similar number on non-contract terms, as the ex-Gillingham pair begin a new era at Hartsdown Park, together with new director of football, former Wales boss Terry Yorath.

Tom Hickman has returned after playing for Faversham last season, Jack Parkinson joins on a three month loan from Welling, while Michael Power, Dan Stubbs (Ebbsfleet) and Wayne Wilson (Bromley) have also signed.

Scott Chalmers-Stevens, Luke Coleman, who missed the latter part of last season with pnuemonia, Keiron Morris, Ryan Peters Aaron Quain and Louis Smith have been retained.

Gate will face Leigh Bremner, who has moved to the Surrey club from relegated Folkestone Invicta where he was player-of the-year at Cheriton Road last season.
