Gate boss sweats on striker fitness

Margate v Canvey Island

Margate boss barry Ashby is waiting for news on Ryan Peters' fitness ahead of the Ryman League Premier Division game against Canvey Island at Hartsdown Park on Saturday.

Peters suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Hendon, and Ashby said: " We took him off as a precaution I hope it's not too serious, and he should be alright."

Ashby said: "We were poor in the first half, but I said my peice at half-time and we went out and had a right go at a very good Hendon side. Overall I thought it was a fair result.

He plans to add a couple of players to his squad as cover ahead of a busy weekend, and goes head-to-head against former Gillingham team-mate Andy Hessenthaler at Dover on Monday. However he admitted: I am not looking that far ahead, all my preparation at the moment is on the Canvey game."
