Gate book place among Trophy's last 16

Margate 2 Worksop 0

MARGATE reached the last 16 of the FA Trophy at Ashford last night with a goal in each half against Unibond League side Worksop.

The Gate went ahead in the 25th minute when Adrian Clarke picked up a ball from Jay Saunders and beat a couple of defenders on the edge of the box before curling a shot round the keeper.

Neil Glaser threatened an equaliser with a free header during the visitors' best spell in the second half but the Gate finished strongly and clinched victory four minutes from time.

From Clarke's corner central defender Sam Sodje was given a lot of space and his header went in via the post.

Gate Substitute Che Stadhart and Manny Omoyinmi both might have added to the tally in the closing stages, Omoyinmi's effort hitting the post.

The Gate now face either Telford or Weston Super Mare, who meet in their delayed fourth round tie on Saturday.

A date for the fifth round tie has yet to be arranged.
