Frustrated Stimson fails to bag striker

THE search for a loan striker to beef up Gillingham's goal-shy attack is proving to be a frustrating one for manager Mark Stimson.

The Gills boss is keen to add a target man to his front line after Adam Miller's late spot-kick to see off Huddersfield on Saturday was only their third goal in their last eight outings.

Stimson admitted: "This striker I’m after is getting more and more frustrating every day.

"I thought we had it on Friday night. I really thought we had one in the bag but unfortunately I got a call an hour later, after I thought I had clinched the deal, saying he was going somewhere else.

"That didn't make my Friday evening too pleasant and I had the hump that night."

Stimson's target could have been former Gills forward Bas Savage, who joined League 1 rivals Millwall on Friday after his contract at Brighton expired last month.

Stimson has already splashed out £150,000 on Simeon Jackson but the young striker needs support. Three other senior strikers, Gary Mulligan, Delroy Facey and Leroy Griffiths, have hit just nine goals between them.
