CLLR SANDY EZEKIEL: "A thriving football club is something we all wish to see"

MARGATE Football Club have today introduced their new investors to Thanet District Council.

The club's funders have agreed to confirm the details of their new investors' proposals for the stadium at Hartsdown Park within the next seven to ten days.

This was the result of a meeting this morning between club representative Keith Piper, a representative of the club's new financial backer who cannot for commercial confidentiality reasons be named at this stage, and leading council officials.

Cllr Sandy Ezekiel, leader of Thanet District Council, said: "We are willing to keep the door open, a thriving football club is something we all wish to see.

"The future consideration of any scheme would be dependent on receiving a fully costed, fully funded business plan and a project plan with key dates for the development to move forward.

"We also need a detailed planning application for the commercial development at the site and it is vital that this is all done with the support of the Conference league.

"The position at close of play was that we await detailed proposals for Hartsdown and additional information from the investor."

The council is also working with the Chief Executive of the Conference League and the supporters' association of Margate FC as part of its commitment to securing a viable future for the Club.
