CHARLTON have recalled central defender Jonathan Fortune from his loan spell at Stoke amid fears that injury casualties Hermann Hreidarsson and Madjid Bougherra could be out for longer than expected.

A third central defender, Souleymane Diawara, is ruled out of Saturday's match at Watford by a one-match suspension.

Fortune, who played for Stoke in Monday's shock 1-0 home defeat by struggling Barnsley, goes straight into the squad for Saturday's match at Vicarage Road.

"The agreement with Stoke contained a recall clause which we've taken up," manager Alan Pardew explained.
