Ford: We must be 'smart' in Twenty20s

FOR the first time this season I thought we looked a little tired and weary in going down to defeat the way we did to Lancashire at Old Trafford.

We have spoken about it and have to accept that, with such a small squad, bodies are going to get tired and that showed in the manner of our performance.

The pressure on each player is huge because there's no chance to rotate, so we just have to find a little more mental toughness to prevent that sort of collapse from happening. The fatigue did show and we did let ourselves down.

The players have already de-briefed about the defeat to Lancashire and are already looking forward to the Twenty20s, which is a format we can enjoy and be good at.

Flexibility in approach is the key to success in these short games, and although we can’t make too many changes to our line up, we will be shuffling the pack so to speak, by looking at our batting order options.

We don't have the big-hitters, so we'll have to be that bit smarter in how we go about our business in the field and our bowling will be crucial.

However, that certainly doesn't mean we can't be competitive.
