Michael Gash scored his first goal for Ebbsfleet United as they were held to a 1-1 draw against 10-man Oxford United at Stonbebridge Road in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday.

Luke Moore started up-front alongside Gash after members of MyFootballClub voted to accept a bid of £140,000 for striker John Akinde from an unnamed club - believed to be Championship side Bristol City.

George Purcell was also included in the starting line-up for the first time this season after winger Ricky Shakes failed to recover from a foot injury.

Fleet took the lead on 56 minutes when Mark Ricketts crossed the ball into the path of Gash who slotted home from close range.

The home side almost doubled their lead just two minutes later when Stacy Long saw his chipped effort finish just over the bar.

Oxford made changes in an attempt to get back into the game - but Fleet rarely looked troubled and appeared to be heading for maximum points.

But the Us had other ideas and scored a stoppage time equaliser when substitute Levi Reid got on the end of a left-sided cross before firing the ball past Cronin.

Earlier, Oxford had the first chance of the game when Jamie Guy shot straight at Lance Cronin after six minutes.

The home side gradually started to get into the game and on 16 minutes Purcell latched onto a pass from Gash before seeing his shot well saved by Oxford keeper Jake Cole.

The visitors continued to look a threat on the counter attack and on 36 minutes Yemi Odubade took advantage of a mistake by Darius Charles before cutting in and firing wide.

Fleet came closest to opening the scoring two minutes before half-time when Purcell set up Craig Stone who saw his driven shot tipped over by Cole.

Oxford were reduced to 10 men just before the break when Luke Foster was shown a straight red card for a two-footed tackle on Stone.
