First half stalemate at Priestfield

Gillingham 0 Walsall 0

NEITHER Gillingham nor Walsall have been able to find a breakthrough in the first 45 minutes at Priestfield this afternoon.

Jason Brown was called into action midway through the half to save bravely at the feet of Steve Claridge.

The Walsall striker had already been flagged offside but that shouldn't detract from a fine piece of goalkeeping.

The home side have put in a solid performance and they came close two minutes before the break when Darren Byfield headed wide after a fine move involving Neil Harris and Tommy Black.

Black then forced a superb save out of Walsall keeper Andy Oakes on the stroke of half-time as Gillingham began to put some pressure on the relegated side.

Gillingham: Brown, Wallis, Cox, Johnson, Clohessy, Black, Crofts, Flynn, Jarvis, Harris, Byfield
Subs: Crichton, Hope, Spiller, Mulligan, Collin.
