Ex-world champ snookers Greene

GERARD GREENE: may face Doherty again next month
GERARD GREENE: may face Doherty again next month

KENT snooker ace Gerard Greene was beaten 5-2 by former world champion Ken Doherty in the second round of the LG Cup.

Greene, from Rainham, looked impressive during his convincing 5-0 over Welshman Dominic Dale in the first round of the Preston tournament on Saturday but he was unable to produce the goods against Doherty.

Greene started the season ranked 38 and a win over sixth-ranked Doherty would have been a massive boost for his chances of reaching the world's top 16.

He is scheduled to take on Doherty again in the second round of the British Open, if he can first beat Ali Carter when the tournament begins in Brighton on November 8.
