AN OLD England XI will take on East Kent club Alkham in August in memory of former Kent and England batsman Brian Luckhurst.

Former Test seam bowler John Lever will take an Old England XI to the village where Luckhurst lived prior to his death last year in order to raise funds for the Mountbatten Centre in Canterbury where ‘Lucky’ received extensive treatment.

St Lawrence favourite Richard Ellison will also be in the side together with Derek Randall, Alan Wells, Robin Hobbs, Peter Such and Paul Parker at The Meadow in Alkham on Sunday, August 6.

The match is being backed by Shepherd Neame but Alkham, who were founded in 1839, are in search of shirt sponsors for what they hope will be one of the club’s most historic days.

Alkham’s Ian Callaway said: "We can hardly believe that we’ll be hosting such a distinguished team on our quaint little pitch this summer.

"It’s a tremendous honour because the Old England XI only play a handful of games each summer and rarely against such a tiny club as ours."

* Tickets for the match will be available on the day, but for sponsorship opportunities and further details contact Peter Frater on 07968 036030.
