Dramatic end to pulsating derby clash

Maidstone United 1 Margate 2

STEVE McKIMM scored a last gasp winner as Margate took the spoils in their Ryman League Premier Division Kent derby clash at Maidstone United on Saturday.

McKimm lobbed Stones keeper Pat Mullin deep into injury-time to seal a 2-1 victory after both sides had had chance to win the match.

Gate took the lead inside 60 seconds when James Pinnock slotted home after Maidstone had failed to clear their lines.

The scores were levelled on 26 minutes when Margate player-manager Robin Trott allowed the ball to go over him and Jacob Erskine nipped in to beat Scott Chalmer-Stevens.

Trott almost made amends for that error 10 minutes later but his header was cleared off the line.

The Stones twice came close to going in front but Andy Pugh saw an effort come back off the upright and Nick Hegley was denied bravely by Chalmer-Stevens when clean through in the 88th minute before McKimm had the last word.
