Doctors deliver blow to Armour

JOHNNY ARMOUR: Planning his next move
JOHNNY ARMOUR: Planning his next move

CHATHAM boxer Johnny Armour is unlikely to fight again this year after doctors advised him to rest his injured left hand.

The WBU bantamweight champion broke his hand against Francis Ampofo last month and doctors at the Medway Maritime Hospital have advised Armour to rest it for another three weeks before having his plaster cast removed.

The news comes as a blow to Armour who wanted to build on the momentum of his excellent showing against Ampofo but far from letting the grass grow under his feet the champion is already planning his next move.

Armour will travel to Liverpool in the next week to speak to his promoters Munro and Hyland Bros about getting a fight in Kent.

He is using part of his recuperation time to check out various venues, with the grounds of Rochester Castle and Chatham Dockyard the latest possibilities being considered.
