Gillingham 4 Colchester 2

GILLINGHAM made light work of their Championship opponents on Tuesday night with a comfortable win at Priestfield.

Delroy Facey netted twice while Aaron Brown and Gary Mulligan got the others as the Gills bounced back from the heavy defeat to Charlton.

Named in the Gills team was midfielder Steve Lomas, who signed terms with the club just hours before the start of the match.

The Gills were a goal up after just seven minutes when Facey struck a powerful shot into the top corner of Dean Gerken's goal.

Brown netted the second a minute before half time when he steamed in at the far post to give Gillingham a deserved two-goal cushion.

Six minutes after the interval and it was three as Facey netted from the spot after the striker had been pulled down in the box by John McGreal.

Clive Platt pulled a goal back just after the hour, but Mulligan restored the three-goal advantage soon after when substitute keeper Marc Cousins blundered and let the Irishman in for an easy goal. Johnnie Jackson headed in a late goal to make it 4-2.

Gillingham: Royce, Southall (Stone 66), Cox, Armstrong (Cogan 81), Sodje (King 76), Brown (Hamilton 70), Crofts, Bentley (Bryant 81), Lomas (Ndumbu-Nsungu 66), Facey (Clohessy 66), Mulligan (Pugh 66).
