Defeat puts Gate in drop zone

CHE STADHART: Had Gate's best chance

Margate 0 Cambridge City 2

MARGATE slipped into the Nationwide Conference South relegation zone after a 2-0 home defeat against second-placed Cambridge City.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes with a goal out of nothing as Rob Miller was played through and finished well past the advancing Peter Trego.

Earlier, Miller should have done better when sent clean through, although Trego’s save was superb.

Gate had chances to equalise before the break.

First, Peter Benevides should have scored but blasted wide and then Che Stadhart somehow contrived to miss from just four yards out.

Cambridge made the points safe 12 minutes from time through Shipley.

It was another blow to Margate's hopes of staying in the Nationwide Conference South after they suffered a 5-0 defeat at league leaders Grays Athletic on Good Friday.
