Deadlock yet to be broken in basement battle

HENDERSON: Saw a header well saved
HENDERSON: Saw a header well saved

Gillingham 0 Cardiff 0

NEITHER side has been able to find a breakthrough in the first half at Priestfield.

Gillingham started the better of the two sides and Darius Henderson saw his header superbly tipped over the bar by Cardiff keeper Neil Alexander after 10 minutes.

Before that, though, the recalled Barry Ashby was relieved to see his defensive header come back off his own crossbar.

The visitors stepped up the pressure on the Gills, although they have failed to create any clear-cut chances.

Henderson and Jonathan Douglas both hit weak free kicks go straight into the wall when they should have done better.

Stan Ternent made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 against Crewe last weekend.

Mamady Sidibe came back into the team in place of Darren Byfield and Ashby was preferred to Chris Hope, who dropped to the bench.

Gillingham: Brown, Nosworthy, Ashby, Cox, McEveley, Southall, Smith, Flynn, Douglas, Sidibe, Henderson. Subs: Banks, Hope, Crofts, Jarvis, Byfield.
