Daws clinches matchplay title

LITTLESTONE golfer Sophie Daws claimed the Kent Girls knockout matchplay title with a fine victory in the final over Dartford’s Carol Jones.

The victory secured her the county’s Milstede Trophy and the final was player at the testing Chart Hills course.

With Sophie playing off 11 and Coral playing off 7, Coral had to give Sophie three shots.

And the 14-year-old Littlestone golfer made the most of the handicap to win the tie; 4&3.

It was the first time that Sophie had entered the competition and she had to win five rounds including the final, some at other courses and some at her home course, to win the competition.

The Milstede trophy is open to all Kent girl golfers under the age of 18 and is run by the Kent Ladies Golf Association .

Iris Smith who founded the competition eight years ago presented the trophy to Sophie .
