Luis Cumbers made his debut for Ebbsfleet on Saturday and the young striker has been assured of a new deal when he returns to Gillingham.

The 20-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, recently joined Fleet on a one-month loan deal but Gillingham manager Mark Stimson insists the striker still has a future at Priestfield.

“Luis will be offered a contract,” Stimson confirmed. “He’s a young lad who has potential. He’s gone out to get some games and hopefully he gets lots of them.

“If he’s available for the last kick-on for us then we’ll include him.”

Cumbers has scored regularly for the reserves this season but has been down the first-team pecking order, which has seen him limited to just seven appearances.

He has already scored his first senior goal though, with a late strike in the 4-0 rout of Rotherham in November.

On Saturday he came on as a second-half substitute in the Fleet’s 1-0 FA Trophy semi-final second leg defeat to Stevenage.
