Andrew Crofts was on the scoresheet for Gillingham reserves at Priestfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The transfer listed midfielder scored Gillingham’s second in their 2-2 Combination League fixture against Brighton.

Gillingham gave a trial to Brentwood’s prolific striker Joe Sweeney, but his afternoon was ended just 20 minutes into the game, following a crunching challenge from Albion’s Adam El-Abd.

The Gills were trailing to a 28th minute goal from Scott Chamberlain but went into the break level thanks to a long range effort from midfielder Charlie Howard.

Crofts tapped in the second on 56 minutes after Luis Cumbers crossed following good work from Jack Payne.

Gillingham held the lead until injury time, when Sam Gargan scored after getting the better of Tom Wynter, who otherwise had an excellent game as part of an inexperienced back four which consisted of fellow teenagers Payne, Connor Essam and Rimmell Daniel.

Gills: Julian, Payne, Essam, Wynter, Daniel, Howard, Crofts, Rooney (Hill 79mins), Sweeney (Murphy 23mins), Pugh, Cumbers. Subs not used: Bartrum, Sargeant, Quinn.
