Jordan Cousins scored the only goal nine minutes from time as Charlton inflicted more misery on managerless Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

It was a good time to play Forest, with uncertainty at the City Ground a day after the sacking of Billy Davies and reports talks with Neil Warnock had broken down.

Charlton remain 21st in the Championship following the victory but are now three points clear of the relegation zone.

Boss Jose Riga said: "Organisation was key and we had that and some quality.

"In our situation we have to take our chances when we get them and at last we scored.

"We are in this together and this was one good step in the right direction."

Forest, with Gary Brazil in caretaker charge, had the best of the first half and hit the post twice through Darius Henderson and Simon Cox.

But Charlton also hit the woodwork after Marvin Sordell was set up by Cousins.

The Addicks defended well to secure a fourth clean sheet in five games under new boss Riga and were rewarded for a gritty away performance when Cousins finished the loose ball after on-loan Jonathan Obika hit the post.
