Clarke and Saunders provide glee for Gate

Margate 2 Leigh 0

MARGATE deservedly emerged with maximum points after dominating their Nationwide Conference clash with Leigh at Crabble on Saturday.

A first half penalty by Adrian Clarke gave them the lead but, despite enjoying the vast majority of the possession, they had to wait until the 68th minute before Jay Saunders added their second.

Manny Omoyimni, who was left out of the starting line-up after being held up in traffic on his way to the game, came on seven minutes after the break for Jean-Michel Sigere and immediately caused the visiting defence problems.

He was instrumental in the second goal when his cross from the right was back-heeled by Stadhart and driven into the net by Saunders.

Omoyimni again burst through three minutes later, but Kelly smothered the ball well. Saunders then went close to getting his second with a header and Stadhart should have done better with a header late-on as the home side finished the game in the ascendancy.

Margate face the long-trip to Scarborough in the Nationwide Conference on Saturday.

The Gate moved up to 16th with victory over Leigh at the weekend and a win on Saturday would see them leapfrog their mid-table opponents.
