Charlton boss demands more victories

PARDEW: "I'm hoping we can put a great winning run together"

CHARLTON swap Marbella for Blackpool on Saturday with manager Alan Pardew admitting the pressure is on his players to win more games if they are to secure one of the Championship's two automatic promotion places.

Before leaving this week for a short break in the Spanish sunshine, he conceded: "We're running out of time and games now, so I'm hoping we can put a great winning run together."

Pardew called on his players to use Saturday's first half performance in the 2-2 draw against former leaders Watford as a spur to boost their performance at Blackpool whom they beat 4-1 at The Valley last month.

He confessed: "We need to win at Blackpool, that's for sure. I'm happy with the squad we have here because we're getting stronger."

Grant Basey and Chris Powell are in contention for the suspended Kelly Youga's left-back position at Bloomfield Road.

Youga serves a one-match ban after accumulating a fifth caution in the goalless draw at Sheffield Wednesday. This season's cut-off for suspensions for accumulated cautions is Thursday, February 28.

Pardew is hoping central defender Madjid Bougherra recovers from the foot injury that kept him out of the last two games.

On-loan midfielder Lee Cook from Fulham, who impressed after coming on as a substitute against Sheffield Wednesday and Watford, is also pressing to start.
