Ashford’s Leon Camier is set to miss at least two of the season’s final three World Superbike rounds after crashing in the Turkish round at the weekend.

The Fixi Crescent Suzuki rider was flung into a high-side during the early stages of Friday’s first free practice at the Istanbul Park circuit and suffered a broken foot, fracture in his ankle and contusions to his elbow.

Camier, who underwent an operation on Friday evening, said: “I am disappointed with what happened and frustrated that I now have to miss some races.

“As far as the crash goes, I knew the grip was bad and I was riding accordingly in the conditions. I went through the first left-hander at the top of the hill and the rear just came round on me off the gas.”

Camier could be forced to call time on his season early. He is resigned to missing the next two rounds at Laguna Seca in the USA and Magny-Cours in France but is hoping to be able to return for the final Jerez round in Spain.

He added: “It has left me with seven fractures in the foot and I’ve got wires, pins and screws in there.

“We now have to work out how to get the best rehabilitation for it and I’ll be pushing as hard as I can to come back for Jerez.”
