Burns takes amateur county golf title

Liam Burns (Sundridge Park) won the Kent Amateur Golf Championship when he beat Jordan Gibb (Deangate Ridge).

Burns was victorious from a field of 72 when he defeated Gibb 5&4 in the final to take the trophy back to Sundridge, where it was won last year by team-mate John Macklin.

Matt Williams (Sittingbourne) won the Hetherington Salver, beating junior Joe Harper (Cobtree Manor) 2&1.

Royal Blackheath junior Jonathon Bell won the Scratch Cup with 137 after a countback over Tony Coulstock (Shortlands), and took the Simpson Cup for the under-25s best gross.

The Astor Cup, with the lowest nett of 135 over 36 holes, went to James Nelson (Westerham).

With a score of 423, the partnership of Burns, Macklin and Michael Hart also claimed the team championship for Sundridge.
