Shaunagh Brown took the honour of Sportsperson of the Year at the 2008 Medway Sports Awards on Friday night.

The ceremony took place at the University of Kent at Medway and Brown’s stunning displays at the discus and shot put were recognised by the judging panel.

“It makes the hard work I’ve put in even more worthwhile,” beamed Brown.

Brown earned bronze in the discus at the Commonwealth Youth Games in India this year, throwing 42.96m, and was fourth in the shot put with 14.07m.

Handing out awards were Medway’s Rachael Burford, who plays rugby for England, and she was joined by Olympians Georgina Harland and Alistair McKean.

Hockey player Adnan Zakir, who won silver with Pakistan at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and Gillingham footballer Dennis Oli completed the line-up of guests.
