GILLINGHAM’S latest signing Danny Jackman played his first full game for the club in Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Cambridge United.

Described as a "little buzz bomb" for his energetic, attacking play by manager Neale Cooper, the 22-year-old former Aston Villa trainee is earning praise for his performances.

Cooper said: "I have spoken to lots of people in the game that know about him and they all give glowing reports.

"Danny is an exciting player. After his first day training with us I wanted to sign him.

"He’s got good feet, a big engine and is very attack minded with the football."

The Gills boss continued: "He’s comfortable at left back, left midfield and has even played up front so he gives us options."

Jackman has signed a two-year contract and follows the arrivals of goalkeeper Tony Bullock and defender Tom Williams as Cooper shapes his squad before the League 1 kick-off against Colchester United at Priestfield on August 6.

But the manager has made it clear he is not finished in the transfer market and said: "That’s three in now and I’m hoping to add another three or four before the season starts.

"I’ll have a look at a few more trialists this week and hopefully we’ll be able to strengthen the squad further."
