GILLINGHAM manager Neale Cooper has expressed his delight after adding left-back Tom Williams to his squad.

The 25-year-old signed a two-year contract with the club just hours before Gills’ pre-season victory over Folkestone Invicta.

Cooper said: "I’m delighted to have got him, he’s an excellent player. He’s got great pace up and down the park on the left hand side."

Williams joins on a free transfer from League 1 rivals Barnsley where he made 42 appearances last season, having started his career at West Ham before spells at Peterborough, Birmingham and QPR.

"We’re gradually bringing in one or two boys that will make the difference," added Cooper.

One player that could be high on Cooper’s shopping list is trialist Danny Jackman, who impressed down the left wing at the Buzzlines Stadium.

Cooper said: "He’s capable and was the pick of the bunch."
