Welling United 1 Hayes 1

DES BOATENG fired home a late equaliser to earn Welling a share of the spoils and condemn Hayes to relegation on Saturday.

The Wings were virtually out of play-off contention going into the game and results elsewhere meant even a win would not have been enough on the final day.

Hayes had to win to guarantee their status but they failed to hold on to a 28th-minute lead courtesy of Josh Scott.

The visitors had already gone close twice when Liam Feeney set up Scott to score.

Danny Kedwell and Boateng both went close after the break for Welling before the latter fired in after good work from Ellis Green.

Welling's Chris Moore was then sent-off for a second yellow card before Hayes' Gilbert Nuako got his marching orders for a professional foul on Sam Tucknott.

Welling keeper Jamie Turner pulled off two great saves late on to deny Hayes a winner while visting keeper Kevin Davies did well to keep out Jamie Day's injury-time free-kick.

The match was the last in charge for Wings boss Adrian Pennock, who is taking up a coaching role at Championship outfit Stoke City.
