Michael Skinner is hoping to secure a place in Britain’s cross-country team

MICHAEL SKINNER and Scott Overall head to Liverpool this weekend hoping to earn a place in Britain’s cross-country team.

Selectors will pick the best six runners from the event to represent the GB squad at the European championships in Spain on December 9.

Both Blackheath & Bromley athletes have a good chance of making it to the championships in Toro and go into the competition in impressive form.

Skinner represented the GB squad in the 2006 championships and at the World Championships in Kenya earlier this year.

He was the second-best GB finisher and he also had a good run at the event in Gateshead recently, finishing fourth.

Overall has been living and training in the US for most of the year and the weekend’s 12k race will be his first for the club since his return to the country.

The last time he competed was in the European Indoor Championships in March where he ran in the heats for the 3,000m.

Both will face strong national opposition as well as competition from local runners.
