MANY Gillingham supporters were in high spirits after it was revealed the club had signed veteran striker Steve Claridge, plus an international defender.

Claridge, a much travelled player, has signed on a non-contract basis.

Brent Sancho, a Trinidad and Tabago defender, has also joined the staff at Priestfield.

Sancho had spent time on trial at Kilmarnock and Brighton and Hove Albion during the summer after leaving Dundee at the end of last term.

In an interview Sancho once said: "I am very proud to be a Trinibagonian. It's a blessing and an honour to put on the red, white and black strip."

Claridge was sacked by the Millwall board in July, a little over a month after being appointed manager of the south-east London club. It was a decision that stunned both Claridge and fans alike.
