KENT’S fifth and final overseas star of the summer, Michael Bevan, will miss Tuesday’s trip to Manchester after pulling out of the Kent side to play Lancashire at Old Trafford.

The former Australian Test player split a finger during Kent’s totesport League defeat to Essex on Sunday, but is blaming a pulled hamstring for missing out on what would have been his fifth championship start for Kent.

The 34-year-old left-hander from Belconnen has endured a miserable time since his arrival in England for this his fourth stint in county cricket following spells with Yorkshire, Sussex and Leicestershire.

Once dubbed the world’s best one-day player, Bevan has scored 40, 35 and 52 in losing totesport League causes, but his four-day form has not been impressive.

He has scored a total of 90 first-class runs in his four championship appearances to date with a top score of 66 on debut against Middlesex in Southgate.

Kent welcome back Rob Key from England duty as a ready made replacement for Bevan and they are further strengthened by the inclusion of pace bowler Amjad Khan, who has recovered from an ankle injury sustained against Sussex.

Geraint Jones has been asked to rest ahead of England one-day duty and Martin Saggers is still recovering from patella tendonitis of his right knee.
