Armour ready for ring return

CONFIDENT: Johnny Armour
CONFIDENT: Johnny Armour

JOHNNY ARMOUR claims to be in better condition than ever as he prepares for his long-awaited return to the ring.

Even a last-minute switch of opponent isn’t about to shake the Chatham fighter’s nerves, as Thursday’s fight-night looms large.

Armour will now face former French super-bantemweight title holder, 28-year-old Tuncay Kaya, after his original opponent Ghanaian Richmond Assante pulled out due to weight problems.

Armour said: "I’m now due to fight a Frenchman but it doesn’t matter. Because whoever it is, I’m going to do the business. I’ve trained hard enough and feel better than I’ve ever done."

Victory for Armour should mean a crack at the European title and a match up against either Michael Hunter or Esham Pickering.

And Armour is confident ahead of the fight at Dagenham’s Goresbrook Leisure Centre.

He said: "I’m going to go in with my eyes set on bigger things. I haven’t burnt out because I haven’t fought in two years. We will see the difference on Thursday."
