Armour keeps dream alive

CHATHAM’S Johnny Armour could get his dream fight against WBA champion Johnny Bredahl early next year.

The two parties are already negotiating a meeting between the two champions, possibly in Bredahl’s home country Denmark.

But for the Chatham man - who retained his WBU bantamweight title on Saturday - its just one more fight on the way to his ultimate goal of unifying the division with a bout against IBF champion Tim Austin also in the offing.

Armour says he is hoping to fight in Medway on December 14 before a possible meeting with Bredahl. He said: “That's the fight I want. I would love to hold all the belts in the division. That's my dream.

“Johnny Bredahl is a good fighter but I feel I can beat him because even though I'm getting on a bit I feel I'm a better fighter than ever and I proved that on Saturday night.”

Few would dispute his claim after what many are already heralding as fight of the year against Francis Ampofo, which Armour again won on points.

Armour broke his left hand during the later rounds, which is now in plaster, but is keen to get back in action as soon as possible with a fight in his own backyard before Christmas.

Sittingbourne’s Central Park, Chatham Town’s Maidstone Road ground and Gillingham’s Black Lion Centre, which has staged an Armour fight in the past, have all been mentioned as possible venues.

He said: “I keep going on about a fight in Kent but this time I’m going to make it happen. Other fighters get shows in their hometown and I’m a world champion so I deserve it.
