New Gillingham striker Mark McCammon is determined to prove to manager Mark Stimson that he was worth the wait.
Stimson spent two months chasing the 29-year-old and McCammon appreciates the efforts that the Gills boss went to.
He said: “It’s a compliment to me that I was chased by the manager and I’m hoping that I can show that he made the right decision.
“It’s a new challenge for me. The team spirit here is good and after meeting all the lads there is a lot of ambition here.
“Gillingham offered me a good deal and they’re heading in the right direction. The manager wants to get promotion and it’s a great opportunity for me.”
An offer of a three-year deal and a move nearer to McCammon’s home in Greenwich helped Stimson prise the player away from Championship football with Doncaster.
“It was a tough decision as they offered me another year,” he said.
“I had a few options but the Gillingham manager told me what I wanted to hear. He, like me, wants promotion and I’ll be giving my all.
“I didn’t want to join a struggling team and there are some ambitious people here like the manager and the chairman and I wanted to be involved.”
